A late-night argument among housemates in Sumter, South Carolina, ended in a fatal shooting on May 15, 2017. Thirty-five-year-old David Jensen Battilana was found in the backyard of his Belk Street home with a gunshot wound and was transported to Palmetto Health Tuomey, where he later died.

Two other people lived at the residence, including 25-year-old Channing Aaron Pack. Police say an altercation among the three residents preceded the shooting. Officers arriving about 11:30 p.m. found Pack and another witness at the scene; Pack was taken into custody and charged with Battilana’s murder and booked at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center. Initial reports describe the shooting as the direct result of the earlier argument.
