On April 2, 2017, 25-year-old Marcol McNair was shot and killed inside a Muddy Creek Road residence on Hilton Head Island. Another occupant, 20-year-old Quincy King, was also fatally shot.
Melton reportedly hid behind a refrigerator and shot both men in the head before fleeing. Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, with a K-9 unit, captured him in nearby woods the same day; he was found with a semi-automatic handgun and a small amount of marijuana. A search of the residence turned up additional firearms, including one reported stolen, and other illegal drugs. Melton was arrested and initially charged with two counts of murder.
Mental health became central in the case, with defense experts citing PTSD and a state psychiatrist disputing that view. The case later resolved by plea and sentencing. Does anyone have information about Marcol’s life or connections on Hilton Head that might shed light on what happened that night?
