Jonathan Luke Stroud was 18 when he died on February 24, 2017, during a birthday cookout in Abbeville, South Carolina. According to investigators, during the gathering he talked about a gun tucked into his waistband and, despite friends warning it might be loaded, reportedly placed the gun to his head and it discharged. He was airlifted to AnMed Health but died of his injuries.
The Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner investigated and concluded the shooting was a tragic, horrible accident, finding no evidence of foul play. No arrests were made. Jonathan’s family arranged organ donation; five people received lifesaving transplants.
If anyone was at that gathering or has details about the events leading up to the shooting, please share what you know.
