A dispute among acquaintances at a mobile home in Ridgeland, South Carolina, on February 19, 2017, ended with the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Lamar Heyward. Heyward was at a Westberry Street residence with four other people when an argument with David Eric Hugue Jr. escalated. The two men went outside and, within moments, Hugue produced a weapon and shot Heyward once. Heyward died in the ambulance before reaching the hospital.
Investigators quickly named David Eric Hugue Jr. as the primary suspect. Hugue told police he had been in Beaufort with a girlfriend and had visited a restaurant, but cellphone records placed him near the scene and witnesses said he knew Heyward. The restaurant Hugue mentioned was reportedly demolished years earlier, and authorities found no evidence of the girlfriend he named.
What additional information do readers have about Heyward, the location on Westberry Street, or people who might have seen events that night?
