On the morning of February 11, 2017, a home on Marlboro Road in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was the scene of a violent home invasion that left 28-year-old Francisco Javier Villar, known as Frankie, dead. The break-in occurred at about 5 a.m. when multiple people forced their way into the residence intending to commit a robbery. A confrontation followed; Villar fired at the intruders and was struck twice. He was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center and pronounced dead.
Spartanburg police identified four suspects in the case: Jarvis Tremaine Stripling, 31 at the time; Rayshon Lamar Smith; Alicia Danielle Pilgrim; and Efrain Rivera. Smith sustained a gunshot wound to his ear during the shootout and was located at a local hospital, where he later admitted involvement. Stripling was charged with murder, two counts of kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. After a three-day trial, Stripling was found guilty of first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery, and two counts of kidnapping and sentenced to 30 years. Smith pleaded guilty to murder and other violent charges and received a 30-year sentence.
Anyone who knew Francisco Villar, the residence on Marlboro Road, or who has information about the events that morning is asked to come forward.
