Nicholas Bradley Valentine was 20 when he was fatally shot while sitting in his vehicle at an apartment complex in Goose Creek, South Carolina, on November 29, 2016. A female companion in the car was wounded but survived. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation and two men were arrested at one point, but charges against both were ultimately dismissed.

Reports say the female witness gave conflicting accounts, a development that complicated prosecution. In the years after the killing Nicholas’s father, Paul Valentine, continued to press for answers and on the third anniversary publicly offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The case remains open and active.
