Timothy Francis Buckley, 51, disappeared from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after being last seen on the evening of September 28, 2016, walking toward his camper at the Springmaid Resort. A retired Riverhead, New York, police officer and former town councilman who had moved to Myrtle Beach, he left behind a wife and three teenage daughters. His vehicle was found in a parking lot on October 5, but Buckley remained missing for weeks.
On November 10, 2016, human remains found in a wooded area off Rodeo Drive near U.S. 501 were identified as Buckley by dental records and jewelry. The Horry County Coroner’s Office ruled his death a homicide. Authorities say the killing stemmed from an attempted robbery at a bar, during which prosecutors allege one suspect shot Buckley when he tried to flee; his body was then dumped and his truck abandoned about seven miles away.
A trial for one accused, Johnathan Hillary, began in June 2019; after a four-day trial, a jury returned guilty verdicts on murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and a weapons charge and imposed life without parole. The other person charged in the case, Bernithia Young, was charged as an accessory and was awaiting trial. Does anyone have further information about Buckley’s last known movements that could add to the timeline?
