Jaquelle Dinkins was 17 when she was shot and killed in Wedgefield, South Carolina, in the early morning of September 14, 2016. Deputies responding about 12:15 a.m. found Dinkins unresponsive on the ground on Apollo Street; witnesses say the shooting followed a knock at a residence, an occupant trying to pull people inside, and those people fleeing when shots were fired.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office investigated and at one point interviewed a person of interest who voluntarily came to speak with detectives; that individual was subsequently cleared. No suspects have been publicly named, and the sheriff’s office offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
This remains an unsolved homicide that left a community seeking answers and justice. If anyone has information about what happened that night on Apollo Street, please come forward to the sheriff’s office.
