Jonathan Boone Jr., 40, was shot and killed on the night of Thursday, August 18, 2016, in North Charleston. Officers were called just before 9 p.m. to the intersection of Dobson Street and Sumner Avenue after a report of a man lying in the road; Boone was found there with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Charleston County Coroner identified him as Jonathan Boone Jr. of Charleston, known to family and friends as Joey and living in Pineville with frequent ties into North Charleston.

Early witness statements said two men were seen running from the area after the shot. In July 2017, detectives said a local teen, Demetrius Ashanti Woodward of Attaway Street, confessed during questioning about an August 2016 killing and was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, in addition to drug charges from a separate operation. Investigators reported the shooting followed a physical altercation. Boone’s family remembers him for his warm smile and close ties to relatives and friends.

Did anyone in the Pineville or North Charleston communities know Jonathan’s routines or see activity around Dobson and Sumner that night?
