A heated online dispute in York, South Carolina, turned deadly on August 15, 2016. Antonio Sentell Nichols, 28, and another man exchanged threatening messages on Facebook, reportedly over a woman. Nichols allegedly used an alias to launch a public, profane tirade and then went looking for the other man in town.
The confrontation occurred on Mighty Joe Trail. Police say Nichols located Christopher Gore on a porch and fired the first shot, striking Gore in the stomach. Gore, who was armed, returned fire and hit Nichols in the chest. Responding officers found Nichols dead in the yard with his gun still in his hand.
After witness statements and an investigation, authorities concluded Gore acted in self-defense and the solicitor’s office declined to file charges. Does anyone who lived in York at the time recall the online exchanges or the events that led up to that night?
