On July 30, 2016, 38-year-old Jennifer Claire Poore of Anderson, South Carolina, was found in a pool of blood at a home on Russell Drive and was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined the cause of death was a single gunshot wound, and the death was ruled a homicide.

Arrest warrants named 23-year-old Chevis Jake Morris and 21-year-old Jordan Michaela Hart, both from Anderson, as the suspects. Morris was identified as the primary suspect; warrants say he struck Poore in the head with a .40-caliber handgun, and the impact caused the weapon to discharge, the bullet penetrating her chest. The shooting was believed to have been motivated by robbery.

After the shooting the pair fled, allegedly forcing entry into a Hall Road home, stealing electronics and a 2002 Lincoln Sable. Morris was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; Hart was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Both faced first-degree burglary and grand larceny charges. Poore’s two daughters survived her.
