On May 16, 2016, 36-year-old Javonta Dease was found near the front door of a residence on Grace Heights in Bennettsville, South Carolina, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies were called just after 11 p.m.; investigators determined the house was being run as an illegal poker house with several video poker and gaming machines and believe the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery that turned violent.
Within days investigators identified several suspects from neighboring Scotland County, North Carolina. Seventeen-year-old Bobby Marqueet Pearson Jr. of Laurel Hill was arrested after being shot during the incident and treated in hospital. Thirty-one-year-old John Phillip Pearson, also known as T-Bizquit, of Gibson turned himself in. Warrants were later issued for 29-year-old Vershaun Pearson of Laurel Hill and 34-year-old Darrius D. Moore of Gibson.
Did anyone in the area at the time observe suspicious vehicles or people near Grace Heights that night?
