Davonte Quentin Freeman, 23, was fatally shot in a deliberate ambush in the early hours of April 30, 2016, near the Siesta Motel on East Main Street in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He and his brother, Wrenshad Kwame Anderson, were walking from the motel toward Adams Street when someone opened fire. Freeman was struck by a single gunshot to the back of the head; his brother, unharmed, dragged him away and called 911. Freeman was airlifted to Savannah Memorial Hospital and later died of his injuries.
Investigators identified two suspects, Aneisha Shaire Young, then 23, of Hilton Head Island, and her co-defendant, Eric Darien of Pineland. Prosecutors said Young lay in wait and opened fire as the brothers walked past. In a March 2018 trial a Jasper County jury convicted Young of murder, attempted murder for the attack on Anderson, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime; the court imposed a 30-year term for Freeman’s murder and an additional 10 years for the attempted murder to be served consecutively. Young also received a five-year weapons sentence to run concurrently.
If anyone knew Davonte, his brother Wrenshad Anderson, or has information about the shooting, please share what is known.
