Chance Chad Tate was 25 when he was killed on the evening of April 18, 2016, in Anderson, South Carolina. He was found on H Street around 9:45 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Anderson County Coroner’s Office. Investigators treated the death as a homicide and said the shooting did not appear to be random; it was believed Tate knew his assailant.
An arrest followed in the early hours of April 19. Gerald Akeem Gadsden, 26, was taken into custody about 3:15 a.m. in the parking lot of AnMed Health Medical Center and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. At his initial bond hearing Gadsden reportedly claimed he was hearing voices and not receiving medication; the magistrate denied bond on the weapon charge and deferred the murder bond decision to a Circuit Court judge. Courtroom accounts noted Gadsden had a lengthy violent criminal history and was facing other serious charges in Greenville County at the time.
Anyone who knew Chance, was in the area that night, or has information about the case is asked to come forward.
