On the evening of March 12, 2016, 38-year-old Regginold McLain was shot and killed on the front porch of a residence on Wanda Street in Bennettsville, South Carolina. McLain had gone to the home to pick up his 12-year-old daughter when an altercation with another man, identified as 32-year-old James Zevon Brown (known as JJ), ended with a single fatal gunshot. Neighbors reported hearing the shot; McLain’s body was later found on the porch.
The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the State Law Enforcement Division, identified Brown as the primary suspect and took him into custody on charges that included murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Investigators also arrested McLain’s estranged wife, Emily McLain, on a charge of obstruction of justice; authorities allege she provided false information to detectives, and bond was set at $10,000.
What details about that night or the people involved might help explain how a routine parent pickup turned deadly?
