In the early evening of January 3, 2016, a dispute in the parking lot of the Dollar General on May River Road in Bluffton, South Carolina, ended when 29-year-old John Kinlaw was shot in the chest. He died while being transported to the hospital; the county listed it as its first homicide of the year. Authorities said Kinlaw and the shooter were acquainted and that the shooting did not appear random.
Bluffton police arrested 17-year-old Kyron Primus of Hardeeville within days and charged him with murder. A short time later, 24-year-old Kenneth Crivan Mitchell of Savannah was also charged with murder in connection with Kinlaw’s death. The community held a candlelight vigil at the parking lot; friends and family remembered Kinlaw as a father and pleaded for an end to gun violence. Motive was not publicly confirmed.
If anyone has information about Kinlaw’s killing or remembers the incident, please share details with investigators.
