Madison Leslie Leavitt was 24 when she was killed on the evening of November 7, 2015, in Gaston, South Carolina. She was an innocent passenger in a Jeep Cherokee that was attacked at the intersection of Gator and Church roads. The shooter first fired a 9mm handgun at the vehicle, then pursued it in a high-speed chase and opened fire with an AK-47, fatally striking Madison. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter was identified as James Richard Elledge Jr., a known methamphetamine dealer who had a prior acquaintance with the Jeep’s driver. Elledge fled after the shooting but was arrested three days later in Aiken County and charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. In August 2017 Elledge pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a 25-year no-parole sentence. Madison is remembered by family as a beloved daughter, mother, and sister; her mother, Melissa Martin, spoke at sentencing about the daily struggle to find forgiveness.

Did anyone in Gaston see or hear anything that night at Gator and Church roads that could add detail to what happened?
