On the night of October 28, 2015, 33-year-old Bluffton restaurateur Johnathan Cherol was shot once in the head and killed while sitting on his sofa after hearing two gunshots on his back porch. A friend who had been with him called 911 immediately. Investigators recovered two shotgun shells on the lawn and later found a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun that matched those shells. Police treated the killing as targeted, not random.

Surveillance footage showed a dark-colored sedan at Cherol’s house about an hour before the shooting and driving by again near the time gunfire was heard; the car was identified as belonging to Colette Collins, who also was captured at Cherol’s door earlier that evening. Investigators say jealousy over an alleged affair motivated the attack. Samuel Collins’s DNA was found on the shotgun and other forensic and digital evidence tied the couple to the crime. Samuel and Colette Collins were arrested about a month later; Samuel Collins was convicted of murder and a weapons charge and Colette Collins was convicted of accessory after the fact.

Did anyone in Bluffton know Johnathan Cherol or see the dark sedan that night?
