On the evening of August 29, 2015, in North Charleston, South Carolina, 27-year-old Jean James Jacques was shot and killed while sitting inside a van on Bramble Boulevard near a residential construction site. Investigators say another man walked up to the vehicle and fired a .357-caliber revolver, striking Jacques.

Authorities identified Isaac Johnathan Deas as the person who fired the shot. Deas was working at the construction site that day, returned home after the shooting and told his mother he had shot someone, then surrendered to the North Charleston Police Department and turned over the revolver. Deas claimed self-defense, saying Jacques had driven past the site several times before stopping and confronting him with a gun; an eyewitness testified that Deas appeared to be afraid for his life. Prosecutors initially charged Deas with murder but later accepted an Alford plea to voluntary manslaughter in September 2017, and the judge sentenced him to three years in prison, with credit for more than two years already served.

Are there witnesses who recall seeing the van or the confrontation on Bramble Boulevard that night?
