Rhashard Spikes was 21 when he was shot and killed in what the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office described as a road-rage shooting on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, the evening of August 4, 2015. An employee of the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, Spikes was driving a Dodge Dart with two passengers when a small silver vehicle with tinted windows, possibly a Toyota, veered into his lane. After he avoided a collision and shouted at the other driver, the silver car pursued Spikes and at least two shots were fired as it caught up to his vehicle.

Spikes was hit at least once but managed to pull into a nearby parking lot. He was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah and died just after midnight. Investigators interviewed the two passengers who were in Spikes’ car, but no description of the driver or occupants of the suspect vehicle was released. The case remains an active cold case; investigators received information about possible persons of interest but no arrests have been made.

Anyone who knew Spikes or who has information about the silver vehicle or its occupants is asked to come forward.
