Sterling Dreyfus Jenkins, 23, was shot dead in the late morning of Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the Walsh Drive Apartments in Hardeeville, South Carolina. Jenkins, known to family and friends as Slim, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide. Born in Beaufort on October 5, 1991, he worked in concrete and was remembered as kind-hearted.

Police quickly identified a suspect and searched for 20-year-old Naijuwuan Chisholm, who was described as armed and dangerous; warrants were issued charging him with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Chisholm in Savannah about a week and a half after the shooting, and another person was taken into custody on a charge of accessory after the fact for allegedly helping Chisholm evade capture.

At trial in February 2017 the jury convicted Naijuwaun Chisolm of murder after a two-day trial; prosecutors said Jenkins was shot in the head after Chisolm waited for him to be alone. The jury deliberated for about an hour before returning a guilty verdict, and Chisolm received a total prison sentence of 45 years: 40 years for murder and five years for the weapons charge. Does anyone have memories of Sterling or information about his life in Beaufort or Hardeeville to share?
