LaCharles Dauntae Govan was 29 when his body was found in the early morning of June 4, 2015, in a grassy area by woods beside Jerusalem Baptist Church on Steele Street in Fort Mill, South Carolina. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound; the town’s first homicide of the year. The discovery deeply affected the Paradise neighborhood, where many of Govan’s family members lived, and the family made public pleas for justice.
The Fort Mill Police Department continued the investigation for nearly three years. In June 2018 authorities arrested 33-year-old Eric Neal Patton, who at that time was serving an 18-year prison sentence for unrelated felonies. Patton was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, transferred to the York County Detention Center, and denied bond on both charges. Investigators did not disclose the specific evidence that led to Patton’s arrest.
If anyone knew LaCharles or has information about his death, please share what you know with investigators.
