Luther Fludd, a 20-year-old Black man from Scranton, was killed just before dawn on May 16, 2015, when gunfire erupted on Samuel Street in Lake City, South Carolina, outside the Carolina Girls Club. Officers arriving about 2:30 a.m. found an agitated crowd and Fludd mortally wounded in the street; the Florence County coroner identified him.
Police initially questioned about two dozen people and said no arrests had been made in the immediate aftermath. Investigators later described the shooting as gang-related, tied to a dispute involving the Bloods of Olanta and the Crips of Lake City. Authorities charged three people in connection with the killing: Tarik Wilson with murder, Dewayne Williams with accessory before the fact of a felony, and Marilyn Wilson was sought on an accessory-before-the-fact charge; police said she had told investigators she would surrender but had not done so and was believed to have lured Fludd to a car outside the club.
The killing intensified long-standing concerns about violence at that stretch of Samuel Street and prompted legal action aimed at shutting the nightclub. Does anyone have information about Samuel Street activity or the night of May 16, 2015?
