Frankie Joyce Fowler Haney, 76, was shot and killed in her Greer, South Carolina home in late March 2015. Frankie sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her stomach and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she died on Monday, March 30, 2015.
The person reported to have fired the shots was her 84-year-old husband, Clifford Haney, who had recently returned home after a three-month stay in a care facility and was due to begin hospice care. Clifford’s son heard a gunshot, went to investigate, and reportedly saw his father fire a second shot before intervening and taking the firearm away. Clifford was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder; prosecutors expected to seek upgraded charges after Frankie’s death. Clifford I. Haney died on April 21, 2015, and the criminal case did not proceed further.
Are there readers who knew the Haney family or who remember the events in Greer that spring who can add detail or context?
