Detuan Jenkins was 19 when he was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Charles Lind Brown Neighborhood Activity Center in Beaufort, South Carolina, on a Monday night in February 2015. Witnesses reported an argument between Jenkins and another individual that escalated to a single gunshot. Jenkins was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.

Initial descriptions said the shooter was a man in his late teens or early twenties wearing a black hoodie and dark clothing. Within two days the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrested 18-year-old Thomas James Caron at a Lady’s Island residence; Caron was charged with Jenkins’s murder and held at the Beaufort County Detention Center with bond set at $50,000. Authorities said Jenkins and Caron were acquaintances but did not disclose the reason for the dispute.
