Travis Brown was a 16-year-old from North Charleston, South Carolina, shot to death on January 18, 2015. Known in online memorials as Travis Brown Jr., he was the son of Dana Holmes and Travis Brown Sr. Family and friends held a celebration of his life at Little Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church before he was buried at Johnson Cemetery in North Charleston.
According to local reporting and social media posts from people who were at a party at the Fairwinds Apartments off Otranto Road the night before his death was recorded, an argument or escalation of tension at that gathering led to gunfire and Travis was shot at or near the apartment complex. Early television reports said one teenager died and another teen was taken into custody that night. Public databases and later reporting identify a man named Tyree Steed as a suspect who was arrested in connection with the 2015 Fairwinds Apartments shooting, and court records cited in a news article say the murder case was ultimately thrown out; the reporting did not explain why or say what happened to a co-defendant.
Travis’s online handle TikeGang LilTrav and family connections noted in coverage linked his death to broader neighborhood tensions and fears of retaliatory violence. If anyone knew Travis, his movements that night, or has information about the shooting at the Fairwinds Apartments, please share what is known.
