A dispute turned deadly in Hardeeville, South Carolina when 41-year-old DeWayne Lamont Manuel was shot three times on Church Street on November 12, 2014. The argument reportedly involved Manuel and another man, Byron Singleton, and centered on Singleton’s girlfriend. Manuel died at the scene.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigated. Byron Kenyattia Singleton, 42 at the time, was arrested and initially charged with murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Witnesses said Singleton drove to the Millstone Boat Landing in the Purrysburg area, discarded a gun into the river, and burned the clothes he had been wearing after the shooting.
In July 2017 Singleton pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and received a 20-year sentence. Did anyone in the Hardeeville area have contact with Manuel in the days before November 12, 2014?
