On March 5, 2014, a house on Law Street in Pelzer, South Carolina, was the scene of a violent outbreak that left three people dead and one wounded. The incident began, according to reports, after Victor Vandegrift accused Jared Michael Williams of stealing his shoes. Williams then produced a handgun and opened fire, killing Vandegrift and 32-year-old Hank Eaton. Wanda Renee Anderson, 43, walked into the home during the shooting and was immediately shot and killed. A fourth person, Tara Johnson Hendricks, was shot but survived after hiding under a bed.
After the shootings, Williams and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Hope Phillips, fled in Anderson’s truck and led police on a high-speed chase that ended when Williams crashed a second stolen vehicle. Williams was charged with three counts of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder; Phillips was arrested and charged with murder and accessory after the fact. In November 2014 Williams pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder and received three consecutive life sentences; Williams later died in custody in March 2015. In November 2015 charges against Phillips were dropped and she pleaded no contest to a grand larceny charge, receiving credit for 611 days served.
Does anyone have information about Wanda Anderson’s life in Pelzer or memories of her that could help the record of who she was?
