In the early morning hours of March 1, 2014, a verbal dispute inside an Eastover, South Carolina nightclub moved into the parking lot and ended when gunfire struck 28-year-old Travis C. Singleton. Deputies who responded to a shots-fired call at about 3 a.m. found Singleton in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his upper body; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were also struck and taken to a local hospital.
Investigators identified a person of interest in the days after the shooting. Richland County Sheriff’s deputies’ Fugitive Task Force located a 24-year-old suspect in a truck in the Hopkins area; the suspect fled, led deputies on a high-speed chase, crashed, ran into nearby woods, and was tracked by a K-9 unit before surrendering. The suspect, Tirrell Boyd, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Singleton’s death and also faced charges for possession of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. The final disposition of those charges is not stated.
