On Friday, January 31, 2014, 31-year-old Alton Rico Reaves died after an officer-involved shooting in Kingstree, South Carolina. Police had responded to a report of a man brandishing a firearm near a building at Main Street and Railroad Avenue. According to reports, when an officer approached Reaves he pointed the weapon in the officer’s direction and the officer discharged their firearm, striking Reaves.

Reaves was taken to the Medical University of Charleston for emergency care but was pronounced dead.
