Madison Dolford was 21 months old when she was fatally shot in Hartsville, South Carolina, on December 2, 2013. Born February 21, 2012, she was the daughter of Oscar Dolford and April Dixon. The shooting reportedly arose from an argument between two adults.

Two people were arrested after the shooting. Timothy Sanders, 40, was charged with murder; surveillance video later shown at his case reportedly showed him preparing a gun and gloves, contradicting his initial claims that someone else was responsible. In April 2017 Sanders pleaded guilty and received a life sentence; the prosecution did not seek the death penalty in part because Sanders had been diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer. April Dixon, 23 at the time of her arrest, was initially charged with misprision of a felony and later charged with murder and conspiracy; her trial was scheduled for June 2017.
