Jessie William Lundy was 30 and serving as Chief of Police in Leesville, South Carolina, when he was fatally wounded during a drug raid on February 15, 1988. He was unintentionally shot by another officer during the operation and died of the gunshot wound on February 16, 1988 despite receiving medical attention. Lundy had been Chief since October 1987.
The shooting was officially ruled accidental and treated as a line-of-duty death; no arrests or suspects were pursued and no criminal charges were filed. Lundy left a wife, a stepson, and a stepdaughter. The department reviewed safety protocols and training for high-risk operations after the incident.
Did anyone in Leesville at the time have recollections of that raid or of Chief Lundy’s time leading the department?
