On the night of January 5, 1980, 18-year-old David Krulewicz was shot and killed while parked in his van on a dirt road off Old Salem Point Road in Beaufort, South Carolina, a spot locally known as Lovers’ Lane. David had been on a date with his 15-year-old girlfriend when an unknown assailant opened fire, fatally wounding him. The attacker then robbed and sexually assaulted the girlfriend; she escaped and ran home to summon help. Deputies found David deceased at the scene.
The case went cold for many years. Evidence was resubmitted for DNA testing after the case was reopened in 1999, and a DNA profile was developed from the surviving victim’s clothing in 2003. A match to that profile was later made in August 2016 after a DNA sample taken during a June 2016 arrest of Isaiah Gadson Jr. was entered into the national database; Gadson was charged with David’s murder and the related crimes. In May 2018 a jury found Gadson guilty and he was sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
If anyone knew David, his girlfriend, or has information about that night, can you share what you remember?
