James Volodimir Nalborczyk was reported missing from Great Mills, Maryland, after family members lost contact following December 7, 2022. Concerned by two weeks of no communication, his family filed a missing person report with the Maryland State Police on December 21, 2022. Investigators later treated the disappearance as a homicide after evidence and interviews suggested foul play.

Police interviewed Nalborczyk’s girlfriend, Michelina Desiree Goodwin, who initially said he had left for a job in Virginia in a company vehicle. On January 18, 2023, Goodwin told investigators Nalborczyk died during an argument at her home on December 11, 2022, when a gun she was pointing at him discharged and struck him in the back. She admitted to dismembering his remains and led police to remote locations in St. Mary’s and Charles Counties where parts were scattered, and she said she enlisted a friend, Larry Joseph Murphy, to help dispose of the body.
