In November 2022, four-year-old Khori Ashton and her 40-year-old mother, Elise Wars, were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds in a room at the APM Inn and Suites on Dual Highway in Hagerstown, Maryland. The two had been living at the hotel for several months when a hotel employee discovered their bodies and called police. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 22-year-old Javon Hines, described as an acquaintance of Wars, as a person of interest. Hines was located with the help of other law enforcement agencies and taken into custody in Elkridge, Maryland, the day after the discovery. Authorities characterized the killings as a targeted and deliberate act. Hines was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.

Few public details are available about motive or the victims beyond their ages and that they had been living at the hotel. If anyone has information about Khori, Elise, their time at the APM Inn and Suites, or the days leading up to the deaths, please share what is known with investigators.
