Duane Ellis, 43, was shot and killed in the stairwell of an apartment building in the 4200 block of 58th Avenue in Bladensburg, Maryland, on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at about 9:15 p.m. Responding officers found Ellis suffering from gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prince George’s County Police took over the homicide investigation and said they did not believe the killing was random, indicating Ellis may have been targeted. Detectives have been working to identify suspects and determine a motive. Authorities announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment, and urged anyone with relevant information to contact investigators; callers may remain anonymous.
