A late summer dispute in Suitland, Maryland, ended in a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 17-year-old TerNijah Ryals. On Sunday, August 28, 2022, at about 1:50 p.m. in the 3300 block of Curtis Drive, Prince George’s County officers found Ryals outside with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital and died a short time later.

Investigators described the shooting as the culmination of an ongoing conflict among a group of young people rather than a random act. Reports say a single shot was fired during a confrontation and that police later identified a 17-year-old male suspect. He was arrested, charged as an adult with manslaughter, held in the Department of Corrections, and the case was referred to the Prince George’s County court system. Information about a trial or verdict has not been released.

Did anyone in the Suitland area see or hear anything about disputes among teens on Curtis Drive that afternoon?
