In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 21, 2022, Prince George’s County officers responded to a Maryland Park Drive residence in Capitol Heights after reports of a shooting. At about 7:50 a.m. they found 34-year-old Jolesia Fairweather suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital and died shortly after arrival.
Investigators described the incident as arising from a domestic dispute. Authorities identified Jolesia’s husband, 37-year-old Orville-Dean Fairweather, as the suspect; he was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder and other offenses and held without bond. Jolesia was a mother to a 17-year-old son from a previous relationship and two young daughters, ages five and four months. She was born in Trelawny, Jamaica, and had come to the United States at age 11.
The first trial in Prince George’s Circuit Court ended in a mistrial in June 2023 after the defense argued self-defense. A new trial was scheduled for March 2025 and Orville-Dean Fairweather remained in custody as the legal process continued. If anyone knew Jolesia or has information about the case, please share what you can.
