Cesar Segovia, 16, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in Germantown, Maryland. The incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. in the 19600 block of Crystal Rock Drive, where Segovia, a Gaithersburg resident, and 21-year-old Jeffrey Baffour Akowuah, from Germantown, had arranged to meet for reasons that have not been released. An altercation escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the two.
Segovia was taken to Holy Cross Germantown Hospital and was pronounced dead there. Shortly afterward, officers responded to a second report at about 4:40 p.m. in the 19700 block of Crystal Rock Drive and found Akowuah suffering from a gunshot wound; he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division concluded the pair shot each other and opened a homicide investigation. Investigators have suggested the confrontation may have had a gang-related element, but motive remains under investigation and no arrests have been announced.
If anyone has information about why Segovia and Akowuah met that afternoon or about the events on Crystal Rock Drive, please share what is known.
