Devin Scott Freeman, 19, was found dead in the parking lot of Gonce Funeral Home on Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn, Maryland, during the early hours of February 27, 2022. Responding Anne Arundel County officers observed apparent trauma; an autopsy later confirmed multiple gunshot wounds and the death was ruled a homicide. Freeman was missing his jacket, shirt, and shoes, and his wallet was empty.

Investigators established Freeman had arranged to meet someone at the 7-Eleven across the street to sell marijuana. Security footage shows him being dropped off, meeting another person who gestured across the highway, and the two crossing toward the funeral home. Cameras then captured a violent struggle and Freeman collapsing. Burned remnants of his backpack were found in a nearby alley.

Homicide detectives identified 18-year-old Jaden Kemetrius Crowner of Brooklyn as a primary suspect; a search of his home turned up a black hoodie stained with Freeman’s blood. Crowner was arrested and charged in March 2022; a second suspect, 18-year-old Devin Garrett Twigg of Nottingham, was charged in June 2022.
