On November 7, 2021, 18-year-old Jihad Y Brown was shot while walking on Greenwood Avenue in Cambridge, Maryland. Witness and surveillance accounts say a man dressed in black approached Brown and another young man, Zakariya Baker, and opened fire. Both were struck; Baker suffered a gunshot wound to his arm and survived after treatment at a nearby hospital. Brown was taken to a shock trauma unit but died of his injuries; an autopsy found eight gunshot wounds.
Investigators recovered a handgun beneath a car at the scene and numerous 9-millimeter and .40-caliber casings. The 9-millimeter casings were later matched to the recovered gun. A suspect was identified, arrested, and charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, carrying a loaded handgun, and using a firearm during a crime of violence. Surveillance footage showing the attack was introduced at trial, and a jury found the defendant guilty in Brown’s murder.
If anyone has information about Jihad Brown, his movements that day, or the events on Greenwood Avenue, please come forward.
