On the night of Wednesday, August 18, 2021, 20-year-old Axel Steven Trejos of Germantown, Maryland, was shot while on an outdoor basketball court at the Plum Gar Community Recreation Center. A dispute at the court escalated into gunfire around 10 p.m.; Montgomery County police found four people with gunshot wounds. Trejos and three juveniles were taken to hospitals, and Trejos was pronounced dead later that night.
In the immediate aftermath officers set a perimeter and detained two males. A 14-year-old from Silver Spring, Shilen Ahmadi Wylie, was charged as an adult with one count of first-degree murder in Trejos’s death and three counts of attempted first-degree murder for the other victims; court documents say a witness identified Wylie as the shooter and that he was found with a 9 mm handgun. A 17-year-old, Samuel Lee Powers of Gaithersburg, was later arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder and three counts of conspiracy to commit murder; he was ordered held without bond. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident and identified the firearm as a ghost gun.
Did anyone in the community see activity at the Plum Gar court that night or have information about the dispute that led to this shooting?
