On the night of July 31, 2020, Rabiah Ahmad, 30, was inside a Dovecote Drive residence in Columbia, Maryland, when multiple rounds were fired from outside the house. Several bullets entered the home and one struck Ahmad, who was 28 weeks pregnant. She was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and died of her wounds. Doctors delivered her baby daughter, Ahja, but the infant died five days later on August 5.
Investigators found few leads early on and concluded Ahmad was not the intended target; the shooting appeared to be aimed as a warning at two other residents of the house. The case remained unsolved for years despite public appeals and offered rewards, and the family received support from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
In April 2025 Howard County police announced an arrest in the case: 31-year-old Edward Robinson of Columbia was charged with murder, related assault and handgun violations. A firearm seized from Robinson’s residence was reported to be the same caliber as the crime-scene projectiles and was to be tested.
Did anyone in the area know Rabiah, the household residents, or notice anything unusual on July 31, 2020?
