On the evening of June 1, 2020, 20-year-old Nygel Allen-Lee Simmons was found inside his car on Stillmeadow Road in Perry Hall, Maryland, with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers performed life-saving measures but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives concluded the shooting was targeted and tied to an ongoing dispute.

Investigators say Simmons was parked at about 6:30 p.m. when another 20-year-old, Sahmir Pasha Tahlib Smokes, allegedly approached the vehicle, fired a shot and then fled in a waiting car on a nearby street. Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop in Baltimore City a short time later and took Smokes into custody; he was charged the next day with first-degree murder and held without bail pending a review hearing. The vehicle’s driver was initially arrested but later released after investigators said they had no prior knowledge of the shooting.

The community was left mourning Simmons and the incident raised questions about the dispute that led to the killing. If anyone knew Simmons, Smokes, the driver, or has information about that night, please come forward.
