Jacob Robert Mauer was shot and killed in Ellicott City on the evening of June 1, 2019. The 20-year-old was sitting in a parked car in the 4200 block of Montgomery Road just before 10 p.m. when a single gunshot struck him; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified 20-year-old Rane Dellinger as the suspect. Investigators say Mauer, Dellinger, and another friend were together in the vehicle using drugs when Dellinger fired the shot and fled. He was located in Cumberland County, North Carolina, about 30 hours later and taken into custody; he was charged with first- and second-degree murder and other offenses and extradited to Maryland.
Mauer lived on Haycarriage Court, graduated from Centennial High School in 2016, and had an associate’s degree in Business Management from Howard Community College. He worked at LeeLynn’s Dining Room and Lounge and was remembered by his family as creative, enjoying music, video games, and time with loved ones.
