Gary Liu was 19 when he disappeared on May 22, 1998, during a small-plane flight that ended in disaster. He was one of four people aboard a rented single-engine Piper Arrow piloted by Robert Beach. The flight left Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose for a planned dinner in Half Moon Bay. Around 9:21 p.m. witnesses reported hearing the aircraft sputter and saw lights spiraling into the ocean.
Despite an extensive search, neither the wreckage nor the bodies of the passengers, including Gary Liu, were recovered. All aboard are presumed dead, but no wreckage or definitive physical evidence has been found and the case remains cold. The disappearance is listed in national databases and investigators say anyone with information should come forward.
Did anyone in the Half Moon Bay or San Jose area see the plane that night or notice anything unusual around 9:20 p.m. on May 22, 1998?
