Salina Rivera, 27, was found fatally shot in a walkway on Belcrest Road in Hyattsville, Maryland, on the evening of March 12, 2019. Emergency responders arrived after reports of gunfire; she was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m. Rivera was known locally as the DJ Salamander.
Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit determined the shooting was not random. Investigators said Rivera was shot during an attempted robbery that took place during a drug transaction. Within days police arrested 21-year-old Alexander Maskiewicz of Aberdeen and charged him with first-degree murder. A second suspect, 26-year-old Shelton Holt III of Reisterstown, was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder and related offenses. Both were held in custody as the legal process began.
Rivera’s family organized a fundraising campaign to help with funeral costs and planned a burial in her home state of New York. Does anyone have information about Rivera’s activities in Hyattsville or about the events that night?
