In the early morning of August 28, 2018, two-year-old Tyree Ryder Flint died after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a Halethorpe, Maryland, home on Bero Road. Tyree’s mother called 911 just after 3 a.m., reporting her son in cardiac arrest; emergency responders took him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 4 a.m.

Investigators found that 25-year-old Shaquiel Malquan Griffin had been staying in a spare bedroom and had concealed a loaded handgun there. According to the investigation, Tyree left his mother’s room, entered the spare bedroom, found the loaded firearm and was fatally shot. Griffin fled before police arrived but was apprehended shortly afterward and charged with involuntary manslaughter, leaving a firearm where a minor could gain access, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was held without bail; officers also noted outstanding warrants in Baltimore County and Baltimore City.

Does anyone have information about the household circumstances or the case that could help clarify how the gun came to be stored in that room?
