On the evening of August 27, 2018, police responded to a home on Wise Avenue in Dundalk, Maryland, after reports of gunfire and found two people with gunshot wounds. Twenty-six-year-old Gabrielle Marie Paugh was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. A second victim, 34-year-old Aaron Michael Wearins, was critically wounded and later died.
Investigators identified 37-year-old Tavon Powell as the suspect and obtained a warrant charging him with murder and attempted murder. Neighbors said Paugh and Powell had been in a relationship and that Powell, who still had a key to the residence, entered and found Paugh with a new boyfriend, which neighbors described as a jealous confrontation believed to be the motive.
A manhunt followed and, on September 18, 2018, U.S. Marshals located Powell in Kenner, Louisiana; after a SWAT standoff he surrendered and was taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and faced extradition to Maryland. Does anyone have additional information about Gabrielle’s life or the neighborhood on Wise Avenue around that time?
