Lamont Adair Jr., 24, was shot and killed on the afternoon of August 8, 2018, while walking in the 6600 block of Greig Street in Seat Pleasant. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Adair was an aspiring professional basketball player from Capitol Heights, a father to an 11-month-old son, and had recently volunteered as a mentor at a Hoops4Peace youth summit where he spoke about avoiding street violence. He was preparing to travel to China to play basketball.

Investigators say the shooting was targeted and stemmed from a personal dispute. Security-camera video from a nearby apartment complex reportedly recorded the attack. Court documents allege 27-year-old Franklin Scott approached in a rented car, opened fire, then exited the vehicle and shot Adair again while he was on the ground. A second man, 23-year-old Olajuwon Jackson, is accused of driving the getaway vehicle; cell phone and rental records are cited in the case. The motive reported to investigators was jealousy over a social media post involving Scott’s girlfriend.

Does anyone have information about Adair’s life in the community or the events leading up to that day?
